Situated on oceanfront Collins Avenue in the heart of Millionaire's Row, Fontainebleau Miami Beach is one of the most historically and architecturally significant hotels on Miami Beach. Opened in 1954 and designed by Morris Lapidus, it was the most luxurious hotel on Miami Beach, and is thought to be the most significant building of Lapidus' career.

Responsibilities

The position of Server is dedicated to exceeding expectations of both internal and external guests to ensure the highest level of service is consistently provided. Teamwork is the key to success in providing a warm and personal experience. The Servers role will be to provide excellent guest service. The Server will ensure the proper set up of the station and work areas assigned and the smooth serving of food and beverage to all of his/her guests. At the end of the shift, the Server will prepare the set up for the next meal period/next day. The Server will also offer support to all other colleagues in the pool, a team of professionals with a passion for food and beverage.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Guests greeted with eye contact, smile, and correct posture. Server is friendly and professional.  Verbiage is clear and complete with proper grammar. Speech is not too fast/slow, at medium volume.  Tone is upbeat.
  2. Inform guests about the special items for the day and menu changes if any. Must have some familiarity with basic cooking skills.
  3. Suggest food and beverages to the guest and try to upsell.
  4. Take food and drink orders from customers accurately and with a positive attitude.
  5. Punch the order on the POS machine and make sure to enter the special requirements made by the guest while ordering the food.
  6. Ensure extraordinary table maintenance. Coordinate service at the table with support staff and other servers. Replenish utensils, refill beverages and with food runners to run food as needed.
  7. Promptly respond to guest with any additional request.
  8. Adhere to all grooming and appearance standards established by the hotel consistently. 
  9. Adhere to all steps of service, pool and hotel’s standards.
  10. Understands and can communicate products and services available at the resort.
  11. Print closing report and drop the cash (if needed), room charges and credit cards receipts at the cashier’s room department.
  12. Operates as a member of a team, helping others and requesting help as needed. Performs other pool duties as requested by management.
  13. Stocks and assists in keeping side stations stocked with ample mise en place: i.e. glassware, share plates, marking trays, condiments, sugar, coffee, tea, etc.
  14. Maintains a proper guest check throughout the entire experience. Make sure the guest gets charged for everything they have. Drops a complete and accurate check when the guest is ready. Secures payment from guests.
  15. Performs all assigned side work before, during, and after their shift.
  16. Communicates the needs of the guests to kitchen and management. Inform management of guests’ reactions and comments. Assists management as needed to ensure smooth operation and quality service.
  17. Serve alcohol responsibly. Serve alcoholic beverages only to guests over 21 years of age. Cards guests when they appear to be under 30 years of age.
  18. Helps to promote a safe and clean environment for co-workers and guests.
  19. Further duties not currently detailed in this outline may be added at the manager’s discretion

Qualifications

 

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Positive attitude and professional appearance.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to assist others.
  • Basic knowledge of food, wine, beer, and cocktails.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENT

  • Previous serving experience preferred; hospitality or resort experience is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts.
  • Food Handler Certification and Alcohol Server Certification

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. High school education or equivalent.
  2. Relevant experience in a high-quality, high-volume operation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an outdoor environment ability to tolerate varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination, and air quality. Varied hours of work schedules required. Availability to work weekends and holidays is a must.

Food Handler Certification

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires mobility.  Requires prolonged walking, sitting, and standing.  Eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity.  Ability to distinguish letters, symbols, and colors.  Ability to push and/or pull a file cabinet weighing up to twenty-five pounds.
